Gallian Army Construction Report No 17 - Small Victories

Hello everyone,

I have to admit I totally forgot this post as I was quite busy during the days - so here's a little update ... nothing all to big, but still some small victories.

The Hetzer's starboard side is close to be finished.

And, of course, some updates on the miniatures.

A Lancer, originally a MG 42 gunner from a Pegasus paratrooper set.

And the ongoing work on my shock troopers and the engineer.

As said: nothing big this time, though the project is still progressing. And I am absolutely happy it does!

See you on the next update!

Take care

Ch'in Army - First swordsmen unit finished

Hello all,

here we go again. Finally I managed to finish the two other swordsmen belonging to the first battle group. Somehow they came out not as good as I hoped, but still okay for me :-D

No. 01

No. 02

Group base:
As I am also not a fan of group bases, I though of making single bases for all the soldiers but put those single bases on a group base I made of some stuff left over from the Gallian Army project.
Though it is not even, nor staightened, I like the outcome very much.

I need to build more of these!

The whole unit:

So far, so good. I quite like the outcome. All the colours match pretty well and though the miniatures are quite small, they all look good even from the distance.

See you on the next update!

Take care

Gallian Army Construction Report No 16 - to sculpt and let dry

Hello everyone!

The following events took place ... last week.

Still working on my Gallian Army, I was able to make some progress on the Jagdpanzer 38, the Gallian Hetzer

First of all I went on working on the mantlet of the machine gun which, for a reason I don't understand, is obviously an one-side-mantlet.

It took quite a while, but finally I finished it:

Doesn't look bad at all.

Then I went on constructing the ragnite engine radiator. There was only one cooling element that had to be done, so this was a rather easy task. And as of now it is nearly finished. I still have to sand it.

Then it was time to work on the left side of the vehicle. Taking a few days of sculpting and letting dry, the port side was near to finished. I only have to sand it.

But as there was still green stuff left, I also finished the cover for the tank commanders periscope. Funnily enough, this part of the kit wasn't in my kit at all. But who cares - won't make any difference, as I like the outcome.

Port side finished - I mean ... nearly finished!

Time to go on with the starboard side. But it will take another week, I guess ... to sculpt and let dry.

That's all for now. More to come.

See you on the next update!

Take care!

Another Qin Soldier

Hello all,

Today, there's just another small update: a second Qin soldier. I somehow got the feeling that I wanted to finish him before returning to the Gallian Hetzer.

And as I just realized that some of the details aren't visible when I use a white background, let me show you the miniature with a black background:

That's it so far. I really like the choice of colors and I think I will keep it.

On the next update, we will return to the Gallian Hetzer (I suppose :-D).

See you then.

Take care

The Princess and the Dragon - 20mm Qin-Army

Stargazers Elysium presents:

THE PRINCESS AND THE DRAGON - A STORY OF WAR AND LOVE AND ... OF COURSE ... WAR

STARRING:

Joe Ma as Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor

Elanne Kong as Princess Yue:

and Jet Li as General Ma

That's it! Or ... at least ... it could be like that.

After having watched a lot of historical fiction television drama shows like "Relic of an Emissary" and "The Story of Han Dynasty" as well as the new anime show "Kingdom" and documentaries about the first Emperor of China, the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army, my interest in the history of Imperial China, especially the period of Qin Dynasty, rose again.
Knowing that some of my friends play DBA and WAB, I therefore decided to build up an Ancient China Army - not in its entirety for sure, as this would impoverish me.

But I think a small group for skirmishes or battles of company size will do very well. I still am not sure what kind of enemy they will face, but as most of the times, that doesn't matter for me at the moment.

The first group of Qin soldiers will be a range of Caesar miniatures I was able to get for only a few bucks. Yeah! As they are quite big, I think they will be made some kind of an Imperial Guard. Sadly I wasn't able to find any more miniatures for a Qin army, therefore I decided to buy a Han Chinese army from Newline Design Miniatures and use them as Qin Chinese. As I read and was assured by some Sinologists, most of the Han army - especially in the early years - beared some resemblance to what the military of Qin Dynasty had been like. Therefore I think it won't make that kind of a difference.

Same with the colors of the Qin uniform. I made some research on the topic, but wasn't able to find any solid clue on what the uniform colors of the were like. In documentaries Qin forces often wear black armor over a dark red uniform. In movies uniforms are completely dark. Books (for example Osprey) depict the uniform as being of a light blue tone, while the Terracotta Army has been painted in various colors ...

So, which way I should go? Having been searching the Internet for quite a while, I finally found the website "An Hour Of Wolves And Shattered Shields". The 28 mm Qin army on that website was painted in a rather dark tone with coloured sleeves and a golden armor. I quite like this variation of colors so I decided to adopt it, but adjust some elements to make them fit to my needs.

First of all I changed the armors color from black/golden to a more leather like tone, because I read that Qin soldiers wore a leather or bronze armor. Then I did some minor adjustments to shoes and shields and finished a first miniature to test if the whole idea works:

I already like it and think that I will go on with this sheme. And now I have got half a company under construction ...I guess I will never finish anything from my various projects ... *sigh*

That's it so far!

See you on the next update.

Take care!
